What you should know about Jack Herer

Jack Herer started his career in cannabis as a glass pipe entrepreneur and opened his first head shop in 1973. Needless to say, this cannabis legend’s journey didn’t end at glassblowing. Herer has become one of the world’s most important cannabis activists of all time.
Herer twice ran for President of the United States as the Grassroots Party candidate in 1988 and 1992.
In 1985 Herer wrote the famous book “The Emperor Wears No Clothes”, which is still in print today. After Herer’s death, a documentary film was made about his life called Emperor of Hemp Jack Herer – Emperor Of Hemp (link to the full documentary).
Jack Herer revered comfrey and its complexity – from its use as a medicine to its use as a source of fuel, fibre and food. He has been a major critic of the US government, accusing it of deliberately hiding evidence of cannabis’ use as medicine and fuel from the American public.
Herer struggled with many health problems later in life, suffering a heart attack in 2000 and again in 2009. He died in 2010 in Eugene, Oregon due to complications related to a 2009 heart attack.
