The Spanish cannabis world has been rejoicing in the return of a legend for a few weeks now! The entire sector was shocked by the closure of the seed bank Dinafem a few years ago. Many people have asked what happened to Dinafem and why they can no longer buy their seeds. Shortly thereafter, we learned that they were immersed in a summary trial from September 2020, which forced them to immediately halt their business operations.
In recent weeks, the most commented news in the cannabis circles is the news that the famous Spanish cannabis seed producer, Dinafem Seeds, has returned to the market under the name Silent Seeds.
Regardless of the legal proceedings in which they were embroiled, there was a certain nostalgia in the Spanish cannabis sector over the demise of this legendary seed bank. Especially thanks to the great work of its breeders, which is reflected in the extensive catalogue of collectible seeds and all kinds of genetic crosses.
They rose from the ashes like the mythical Phoenix!
Silent Seeds is the new business name they have chosen for their return to the cannabis sector. But not everything is the same, many things have changed, they have come back stronger and wiser to replenish the collections of their loyal fans. In the diversity of seeds we find some of the differences. The Dinafem Seeds catalogue was much more extensive than the one now presented by Silent Seeds. However, they do so with a clearly defined goal: excellence and genetic stability. They themselves tell us of their intentions:
“Silent Seeds’ mission is to offer you an unforgettable journey into the world of 21st century cannabis. This plant, which belongs to the Cannabaceae family, still holds many secrets, even though it has been present in our civilisation for millennia. Moreover, key research currently underway shows how much it can change our everyday lives.”
When you see the Silent Seeds logo on your face, a cautious smile is sure to appear. At first glance, there is a similarity in the typography that is not purely coincidental, the inverted E in the name and even the same seed in the logo, but turned upside down. It’s like a new version or update of the Dinafem logo. Silent Seeds makes no secret of its style and brand loyalty.
Change of registered office
A legal notice on the Silent Seeds website shows that they have changed their headquarters to the Netherlands. Probably to survive in a system that is much more modern, more lenient and of course more intelligent when it comes to cannabis seeds than the Spanish one. It is common knowledge that the Spanish system is unfortunately rooted in prehistory and does nothing but rob itself of the opportunity to be the absolute European leader. In Spain, growing cannabis with a thc content above 0.2% is still a criminal offence, while in other countries this amazing plant means improvements in many areas such as health, leisure and even the wealth and growth of the country.
New Silent Seeds catalogue
Silent Seeds has opted for a much less extensive collector seed catalogue than the old Dinafem catalogue. In innovating their genetic collection, they have focused on offering only carefully researched genetics that meet their 2 goals to a tee:
- Maximum genetic stability
- Very high terpene and cannabinoid profile, different from other varieties
Their undeniable advantage is that they have extensive technical knowledge and a wealth of experience in the cannabis industry, which they use to create new genetics. Their new and exotic hybrids show a strong American influence.
This does not mean that they have abandoned their famous and respected genetics, but they have kept only the best of the best and the best of the best!
You can look forward to the return of the classic genetic varieties that made Dinafe so successful, such as Moby Dick, Original Amnesia and Critical +2.0. In addition, Silent Seeds will bring you a number of exotic crosses of the best American genetics, among which stand out for example Watermelon Runtz, Lemon Sorbet, Zkittlez 2.0 or Cookielato.

So what happened to Dinafem then?
On 15., 16. and on 17 September 2020, the Guardia Civil, together with the tax authority, intervened and dismantled Pot Sistemak S.L., which included Dinafem Seeds. The operation, called “INXER-TORO”, began in 2018 and ended with the arrest of 14 people and the investigation of 8 others, raids on 12 houses and 5 industrial facilities. During these searches, €207,000 in cash, 2,100 potent cannabis plants of different genetics and 20 million seeds were seized from a total of 11 large cultivation facilities. Some of these plants were grown under artificial light (black light), which also led to the offence of damaging the electricity supply. In addition, 3 safe deposit boxes, 126 bank accounts and 55 properties were seized and frozen. The total amount of money, accounts and real estate amounted to more than 21 million euros. The Guardia Civil said in a press release that it “succeeded in breaking up an organization that was engaged in the cultivation, promotion, encouragement of the illegal consumption of cannabis.” Eventually, these Dinafem members were charged with crimes against public health, criminal conspiracy, money laundering and electricity fraud.
We want to express our support for the Dinafem family and indirectly for all Spanish seed banks in the same situation. Their activity is not trading, but producing collectible seeds, which are perfectly legal in Spain. What each user does with them is neither their nor our problem. As well as information about self-cultivation. Information is universal, everyone decides how to use it. No one is inciting anyone here.
On other issues, such as tax fraud or electricity fraud, we cannot take their side. The law is (or should be) the same for everyone. They will have to defend themselves and suffer the consequences of their actions.
Overall, however, we are very happy that this seedbank has not completely disappeared and we can look forward to the return of these gems to our favorite stores.
